Feb. 10, 2008 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Lightning strikes the Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain during a violent thunderstorm. At 130 feet high, it's the world's tallest statue of Christ. Construction of Christ the Redeemer was completed on Oct. 12, 1931. On July 7, 2007, the statue was named one of the new seven wonders of the world. The statue inspires millions of visits from tourists and religious pilgrims per year.
