Thirsty Amazon
Oct. 27, 2005 - Barreirinha, Amazon, Brazil - A big riverboat gets trapped on a sand bank during one of the worst droughts ever recorded in the Amazon. The drought, which some scientists blame on global warming, has dried up huge portions of the world's largest river, killing tens of millions of fish, stranding hundreds of remote communities and spreading disease and economic hardship across the region.
